ARVADA — Over a decade since the city’s Urban Renewal Authority began efforts to bring a hotel to Arvada, developers finally broke ground on the Hilton Garden Inn Wednesday afternoon.
The $23 million project redevelops a 3-acre site at 5445 Olde Wadsworth Blvd. that will house a 139-room, five-story hotel expected to employ up to 80 workers.
When completed early next year, the building will have a 3,000 square-foot meeting and event space, a full-service restaurant, indoor pool and fitness center and 150 parking spaces.
At the groundbreaking, Kevin Brinkman, co-founder of lead developer Brinkman Partners, said the site is in a prime location between Interstate 70 and Olde Town Arvada, and blocks from a future commuter-rail station.
“We this as a great urban infill opportunity in a growing, dynamic, walkable area next to a major transit hub,” Brinkman said.
City leaders said the development is the first hotel in the city of 112,000.
“Visitors have been clamoring for it, residents have been clamoring for it, we’re thrilled to have a Hilton in Arvada,” said Mayor Marc Williams.
As a tax-increment financing project, the developers purchased the property from the city’s urban renewal authority at a discounted price, and received an $800,000 lodging tax rebate among other incentives to offset a $5.6 million funding gap.
