Five Reasons: Why “Once Upon a Mattress” at the Arvada Center is a Must-See this Holiday Season!
In the Arvada Center’s family-friendly holiday musical Once Upon a Mattress, the tale of The Princess and the Pea is turned into a wacky, hilarious Broadway show complete with lots of physical humor, charming songs, and some of our region’s best actors.
It has Aléna Watters playing the lead role. Audiences loved Aléna as the Fairy Godmother/Marie in our production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella last year, and we are excited to see her play the unconventional princess Winnifred the Woebegone who embraces her quirkiness. Carol Burnett originated this role on Broadway, and we can’t wait to see the talented Aléna’s take on it.
It’s a lot easier to get to than the current Broadway revival. The Broadway revival is playing through November with Sutton Foster, but you don’t need to travel to New York City for this - we are right here in your community!
It’s a great event for families, no matter how you celebrate the holidays. While we love the Christmas classics like A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker, it’s also fun to sometimes offer productions that appeal to everyone in the community.
Children’s tickets are 50% off the original price. We want the whole family to be able to go, so we offer tickets for children 4-12 for 50% off the listed price.
It’s just plain funny. From the hilarious and over-the-top physical humor to the quick witted dialogue, this show promises to be a night of laughter and delight.
About Once Upon A Mattress:
Prince Dauntless’s outspoken Queen mother and silent King father decree that no one in the kingdom may marry until their son finds someone sensitive enough to be a true princess. Will goofy, awkward Winnifred the Woebegone from the swamp finally be the one to pass the seemingly-impossible test?
In this laugh-out-loud musical version of The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress redefines what it takes to be a princess. Perfect for the whole family, this hilarious tale zany enough to launch the Broadway career of Carol Burnett celebrates the uniqueness in all of us.
