New home and garden shop Outside the Box holds soft opening in Olde Town

Dorn Nienaber and Chris Spears bring curated garden goods to Arvada

Dorn Nienaber and Chris Spears have been selling curated home and garden goods since 2016, but until April 1, they didn’t have their own space to showcase their finds. That all changed with the soft opening of Outside the Box, a new addition to Olde Town, located at 5760 Olde Wadsworth Blvd.

The pair previously ran Outside the Box out of their home in Evergreen, traveling to pop up consignment fairs like Curate Mercantile and Sugar Mill. Once demand for their business grew to the point that they needed to rent out a warehouse to store their goods, they began looking for a brick and mortar shop.

“In early February 2022 we found a real estate listing in Olde Town Arvada, visited it, fell in love, and the rest is history,” Spears said.

Their shop is nestled at the entrance of Olde Town between Denver Beer Co. and Fuzzy’s Tacos.

While the pair works tirelessly to offer the best goods to their customers — going to buyer fairs and working with a few consistent local artisans — they want to offer something for shoppers at every price point.

“(We) strive to have price points for every buyer, with price points from $5 to over $500,” Nienaber said.

The shop began business on a limited basis on April 1 and will host a grand opening this spring or summer.
